Take the Guesswork out of Avoiding Infomercial Scams

March 13th, 2009 by Phil Stewart

Posting this early in the morning can mean only one thing... infomercials! Ugh. One can take only so much of this mind-numbing gunk before the brain short-circuits and you start wondering if some of these scams might actually have merit.

That's where I am right now... watching hot chicks in fast cars living in big houses trying to convince me how easy it is to make money. Sure, I say, but the strip clubs won't hire me after the glowstick incident of '98 so can any of these infomercials actually make me rich instead?

A quick google search brough up an infomercial ratings website that makes it easy to see whether or not an infomercial is worth looking into further. Save yourself time and money by checking out an infomercial through the link above before throwing away your hard earned cash.

Of course, the typical scam alerts apply as well.  Some of these include:

  • Any offer showing beautiful women in bikini's, McMansions, sports cars, etc., has a pretty dang good chance of being a scam
  • Any offer that guarantees profits is a scam
  • Any "get rich quick" offer is a scam
  • Mailing your gold or jewelry to any company for cash is a scam
  • Getting only one napkin and no sauce packets from the fast food drive-thru is a scam

It may also be interesting to note that the majority of infomercials I checked out at the link above were rated as horrible with most everyone blasting the companies as outright scams.  I was only able to find one infomercial that did not come across as a scam.  That infomercial?  Dean Graziosi's learning the people about real estate millions.  Nice to see not everything on TV is a scam.  I also found it interesting to note that Dean Graziosi's real estate program is rated much higher than Donald Trump's.  I guess his hair piece doesn't have magic powers after all.

Good stuffs!

So after reading your great article on infomercial scams I have come to realize how easy people are to scam. It amazes me how many people repeatedly fall for get rich quick scams and other investment gimmicks. So here is what I propose, lets make an infomercial that sells a get rick quick course. “Packets of Wealth” from ‘mild’ to ‘fire’ we have a course for everyone. Think about it and get back to me.

Oops, I didn’t mean to inspire people to scam others…I think “avoidance” means to stay away from something. But I guess you can scam the people I don’t like. =)

Yeah, too many people seem to place too much trust in the almighty television. But they probably won’t buy “mild to fire”. They’ll buy “mild to wild”, “buns of steel”, “funky monkeys”, and other things with catchy names priced for a limited time at only $19.99. Make sure to grease up your hair and call people “folks” one too many times. Your “Packets of Wealth” could be elaborately wrapped sauce packets from Taco Bell. Charge people twenty bucks and tell them to resell the wealth packets for fifty. See how long it takes people to realize they don’t have to pay twenty bucks for a sauce packet.

Hey, it may sound dumb but a lot of the scams out there aren’t much better.

Maybe I should start a contest to give away free sauce packets. Then maybe people will quit falling for those devastating sauce packet scams.
